Alternative Summer Playlist

As I am writing this, I’m flicking through the music channels on Sky and it just firmly proves how much you NEED this list in your life. Which is another way of saying, music channels are currently making me despair, but that’s a rant for a different day.  But also, I think I might edit this list to include DNCE’s Cake By The Ocean because damn that is so catchy.

I am not a summer music subscriber, i.e. I don’t like club/dance music and “absolute bangerz” (please sense the sneer in the quotations) but there are few things better than the right song playing through headphones when the sun is shining.

I know the British Summertime is currently being a fickle little madam, but I think these songs will serve you well regardless. There’s a total mix of classics, (my version of absolute bangerz,) songs that make you want to do a sassy strut, indie rock and some soothing folky stuff in this list.

America’s Sweetheart- Elle King

Twice- Catfish and The Bottlemen

Bodies- Band of Skulls

Light House- Future Islands

Friends- Eliza and the Bear

Sweet Disposition- The Temper Trap

Casual Party- Band of Horses

Move Like You Want- Ben Howard

In Too Deep- Sum 41

Where The Devil Don’t Go- Elle King

Wrong Crowd- Tom Odell

Nightdriving- The Amazons

Upside Down- Paloma Faith

Waterloo Sunset- The Kinks

The Less I Know The Better- Tame Impala

Left Hand Free- Alt J

Come and Get It- John Newman (damn that advert!)

London Calling- The Clash

This Is The Life- Amy McDonald

Clouds- Newton Faulkner

Jaws Of Hell- Lonely The Brave

Pumped Up Kicks- Foster The People

Belief- John Mayer

Fall Together- The Temper Trap

She Burns- Foy Vance

I have an explanation and a summertime scenario for every song to make them completely perfect. A lot of these scenarios include dancing around your kitchen as you make cute iced coffees or walking under trees as the sunshine flickers through the leaves, or driving with the top down.

The Elle King album is actually incredible, so rockabilly and incredible vocals. Future Islands are also perfect summer listenin’. A lot of these songs are on new albums, so I’m so excited for everyones tour dates to be announced so there’s something else to make your summer good.

I’m always on the look out for new music, so load me up with suggestions please or just let me know what you think!
